Gary took over as committeeman in 2002 with the local Republican party nearly inactive. The four year under his predecessor had been disappointing; few general meetings, few exciting events and little recruitment of new members.

Gary used his business and personal skills to build a team and build the party in Palatine. Inspiration and delegation. Years in business had taught Gary that you can't do everything yourself. He recruited people to help with the efforts and delegated responsibility and authority. He inspired people with his "rants" at the breakfast meeting and he allowed all Republicans willing to work to put their efforts into the cause. Gary did a remarkable job of getting Republicans on both sides of the Life issue to work side by side, setting aside their differences in this very important issue, to work for Republican candidates in every general election. Yes, there was some tugging and pulling on the issues that divide us during primaries, but come the general election Gary got everyone headed in the right direction.

Breakfast meetings almost monthly brought active Republicans together to hear from local and statewide candidates and other speakers of interest. These breakfasts have been a recruiting tool for getting people off their couches and into the precincts working for our candidates. The December breakfast had attendance of over 100 people. Gary has personally recruited speaker after speaker each month to draw the attention of the members. Depending on the number of cups of coffee consumed at these breakfast meetings, Gary's remarks can rise to the height of enthusiasm. Affectionately known as "Gary's rant", these talks motivate the members and very often expresses out loud what everyone has been thinking and wishing they could figure out how to put into words.

Gary and his team have recruited volunteers to work the precincts, meeting voters at their doorstep to remind them to vote and helping them select the Republican candidates. The "Precinct Captain" is the backbone of the Palatine Township Republican Organization and we have more precinct captains now than at any time in the last 30 years. If someone rights your doorbell in January when is 10 degrees out, it's most likely a member of TOPPER, the Palatine Township Republicans. Please thank them for coming to see you despite the"global warming" we experience around here during January.

Kirk Dillard, candidate for Governor, commended the Palatine Township Republican organization as the "model" for other township organizations; one of the largest and strongest in Cook County. A tribute of 8 years of Gary's leadership.

Carrie Miller, a local leader of the Tea Party Patriots, commended the Palatine Township Republicans as being the best Republican organization in the area to non-endorsed Republican candidates and their supporters in terms of openness, fairness, willingness to distribute signs and literature from the headquarters, etc.
